RON HICKMAN AND HIS BAND
Formed on March 12th 1936 under the name of the 'Blue Rhapsodians' as a six piece band. During the summer they hired the Wimbledon Pavilion and ran dances on 11th July, 12th August, 7th Sept and 21st September.
The band was renamed, Ron Hickman and his Band, and held dances at the Savoy Minor Ballroom.
During the winter season 1936/37, the band paid visits to every ballroom of note in Southsea with every sucsess. On Oct 30th, the band paid a flying visit to Cowes IOW.
On 1st January 1937 with an enlarged band, they replaced Vincent Norman and his BBC Band at the New Empress Ballroom.
