Gerard plays his "Great American Song book! Gerard Kenny returned to the Swindon Arts Centre on 23rd October 2011. The night was for his version of the 'Great American Songbook'. He kicked off with the Irving Berlin 1920's song, "I love a piano" This was followed by "Where or when" was the first song he ever played in public at a church social, at the age of 6. From the 'King and I', he played "I have dreamed", a unique and very different version. Next came the Sammy Davis/Duke Ellington favourite "Birth of the blues." Then came the Gus Kahn song, "It had to be you" in the key of G as suggested by Sandy on string bass, Gerard had forgotten!. Nick on drums followed along with them! Next, the faster version of the song he sang to Jenny on the day they married, "Our love is here to stay!" Then came "Satin Doll" which featured solos from all three on stage. Gerard confessed that this was only the second gig with Sandy and Nick. To finish of the first half in style we got an impression! He donned a trilby and sang the somng "Heart" in the style of Snozzle Durante! The second half began with "42nd Street", followed by the medley of "If I loved you/My foolish heart." Then the up-tempo "Let's misbehave," came next. Cole Porter is top of Gerard's list of songwriters so he could not be left out. "I get a kick out of you" was his choice. But it didn't stop there. He then played "Miss Otis regrets," and also "Everytime we say goodbye." The concert ended with the Bobby Darin song, "Mack the knife." For an Encore, he returned to play Charlie Chaplin's "Smile." Another great night of the 'Great Garard's' great music.
