GERARD KENNY at the Swindon Arts Centre October 22nd 2000.

Gerard took the stage in a long black coat and a shirt with a Harry Hill collar, an went straight into, "One lonely voice" then "An American in London" for Pat who was sat in the front row. He told of his cruise to New York, and some rough sailings and then played "Manhattan".
He next sang "All that jazz" and assured us that the tap dancing was for free!
"8 o'clock blues"was followed by "One more turn" and then an 'old chestnut' "Once in a while" tenderly and beautifully sung. The Tom Lehrer song "I'll give it to you" (I think that's what it's called?)brought wonderful humour into the show and giggles from the darkness, and then Gerard announced for 'his minder Rosie' "I could be so good for you". Then came a Barry Manilow tribute "Could it be magic/I cant smile without you/I write the songs" with high kicks without a safety net, while sat at the piano. Then Gerard jumped off the stage and rushed out to the bar area to be ready to sign autographs during the interval. Now wearing in an open neck white dress shirt and black leather trousers, which caused a 'wooo' from the fans, Gerard's second half was the 'request hour' and he set off with Elton John's "Honky cat" and then brought the mood and tempo down for "Why did I choose you". Then came a number of requests, "New York state of mind(for Gerard's baseball team, The Mets), From this moment on, Night and day, Summertime, Misty(with an impression of Johnny Mathis), and then Arthur's song".
Gerard mentioned lyric writer Barry Mason, and then sung a little of "Love grows where my Rosemary goes" followed buy the full version of "The other woman" followed by Hoagy Carmichael's brilliant song,"Stardust" More memories with "Farewell Canberra" and then the always requested "Do I love you".
Gerard's "New York" was was applauded loudly and was full of party poppers and sirens, and was supposed to finish the night but applause turned into a standing ovation, and he returned for his final medley,  "On this earth/All for a dream/I made it through the rain". The applause continued and continued and Gerard agreed to one more song, he sang "My Way". He was certainly on top form and he, and all, enjoyed the night. Great songs, a great voice but I do believe he cheated, I'm sure I counted six fingers on each hand!
