The Queens Hotel Southsea

The first Queens Hotel was built by the architect Augustus Livesay in 1861 but called Southsea House was owned by Sir John and Lady Morris. After the fire in 1901, the new Queens Hotel and Southsea’s crowning jewel opened its doors once more on May 19th, 1904 and was designed by London based architect Thomas William Cutler. Famous guests have included former Prime Minister Winston Churchill, actor/comedian Rowan Atkinson, an episode of Mr. Bean filmed at the hotel in 1992, actress Joan Collins, Beatrix Potter and King George V and Queen Elizabeth, the queen mother. There has always been music at The Queens Hotel but the styles changed over the years.
